Welcome back to the course!

Hi everyone. I hope you are all refreshed from your break and ready to continue working on the new project which is of course the design of a downloadable pdf magazine.

Our last session was the lab with Rod Bamford looking at how to create a 3D letterform and prepare it for prototyping. I indicated at the time that I would be meeting with Rod and Richard from the Printery to discuss the 3D print ordering and file processing workflow for your upcoming student projects. This meeting is now scheduled for the 22nd of September. It is important for you to focus on is the creation of your file according to the instructions Rod provided in the lab and to send a copy of the file to me via email at ian.mcarthur@unsw.edu.au

You should find your file is a suitable size for emailing. If this is not the case please send me an email and we'll work out how to get it to me.

In addition to the 3D Printing you'll find that there are other tasks to engage with in the course including reading the new lecture which focusses on the topic of Visual Hierarchy and Grids. The plan for this week is to read the lecture and respond to the following tasks. You can refer to the course documents as well.

Studio: Conceptual and developmental ideation for potential topics for the online publication.

Discussion Point: How has use of visual hierarchy and grid evolved with the emergence of digital technologies over the traditions qualities and potential constraints inherent in letterpress? Find 2 examples to compare and contrast. Post your response to the Studio Blog.

Self-directed: [SR1]: Research and develop methodologies for accessing, developing and producing content for the Project 2 publication. Individually set up a grid appropriate to the concept for the Project 2 publication.

Please contact me by email if you have any questions about how to proceed.
